Make a Conservation Pledge as a GaLTT Nature Steward

Support the Gabriola Land & Trails Trust Nature Stewards Program

Our island's citizen-led initiative to conserve at least 30% of the land area for wildlife habitat biodiversity on privately-owned land. It is a voluntary pledge of stewardship and NOT in any way a land-titles restriction or legal agreement. It's about honour and care for the land you love.

Find out more via the link to the program page above.

The GaLTT Nature Stewards page also has a curated list of recommended web-links and free resources for learning more about nature stewardship.

Creating a forest community from a logged area

This is a PDF page link to the Galiano Conservancy Association  (GCA) report (8 pages)

They have worked hard at restoring/rejuvenating a young Douglas Fir Plantation to enhance biodiversity and accelerate the natural dynamics of natural forest conditions. Normally, with a heavy impact like clearcutting and replanting, it would take several more decades to fully naturalize to more "primary forest" conditions.

Thanks to GCA for all their good work and sharing of lessons learned!

Need an unsightly view screened out or looking for more privacy on your property?

Have a bustle in your hedgerow . . . green-fencing for the birds, the bees and you!

Sometimes the view to a working area of your property, or to your neighbours, or the roadway is just too much!

Folks often rush to a quick solution like plastic fake foliage screens (which should be illegal) or constructing a solid wall of wood or sheet metal . . .

But compared to simply planting native or cultivar hedges, or employing other greener, softer privacy screen techniques, both these fixes tend to cost significantly more in the long run, eventually fall apart, require more upkeep, and do nothing for nature.

Nature's Way gardeners can come up with solutions that will add natural beauty, enhance biodiversity and create the privacy you desire.

As we get close to a metre of rainfall here in the rainy season (we are in a coastal temperate rainforest eco-region after all),  it will only take a few seasons to grow into the ideal
size and condition.
